On July 10th of 138AD Emperor Publius Aelius Hadrianus passed away in his villa in Baiae (what is today known as the gulf of Naples) after a twenty-one year rule. He was buried, first, in Pozzuoli (the metropolitan city of Naples) on an estate owned by Cicero - a roman statesman, scholar, philosopher, lawyer, and academic skepticist - but, upon completion of The Tomb of Hadrian (also known as Mausoleum of Hadrian or Castel Sant’Angelo) in 139AD, his body was cremated and placed in the mausoleum beside his wife, Vibia Sabina, and his adopted son, Lucius Aelius Caesar, who also passed in 138AD.
