Hashtag Search is a Poor Information Retrieval Technology

I have decided to turn off hashtags in the “newsfeed” status update stream here on Fun.Freezine.ORG. First of all, Buddypress has a fine search engine “built in” — so hashtags are really quite superfluous. But perhaps most important is that hashtags really limit a searcher’s capabilities to find the information they are looking for. And besides that, most authors are so involved with articulating their ideas, that making such superfluous choices with respect to which strings will be used for indexing is actually quite taxing and simply an unnecessary distraction.
